Bonjour bonjour!
Voilà un e-mail pour donner de mes nouvelles! (Ceci est la version raccourcie)
Voilà trois semaines que je vis à Rotterdam, dans le nord de la ville. J'habite dans un building pour étudiants internationaux et je vis seule (pour le moment, pas de cokoteur) dans un des appartement de l'université. Donc même si vivre à 7km de l'unif peut être embêtant, j'ai 32m2 pour moi toute seule ! :)
J'adore les gens de ce building ! Tout les jours, j'ai droit à : un goulasch Tchèque, des vrai pâtes italienne, de la vrai vodka polonaise, de la musique bulgare ou roumaine et même du « rap » népali, à des blagues canadiennes, a des conversations avec des chinois, à des tea time avec une colombienne... Mon building représente la planète entière ! Je suis la seule Belge et la plus jeune étudiante du building mais vivre avec des « vieux » (master et doctorats) ne me dérange pas du tout, tant mieux donc !
Cela fait deux semaines que je vais à l'unif. Erasmus University vient tout juste d'être classée 5eme meilleure université d'Europe, 106eme au monde et.. le travail est rude ! Cependant, j'aime mes cours et j'apprécie énormément mes prof (que l'on appelle par leur prénom!). Je n'ai que 11h de cours obligatoires par semaine et 4h optionnelles. Les cours obligatoire se déroulent dans des classes de 16 élèves et les 4 autres heures se déroulent dans des auditoires pour les 125 premières années. Mon cours principal du moment est « Academic Writing » et je peux vous dire que... c'est difficile ! Mais j'ai obtenu 90% à mon premier devoir (ah ! je suis super heureuse !!) mais j'ai bien travaillé dessus 15h... (On a des montagnes de livres à lire avant de faire nos devoirs)
Mon programme s'appelle International Bachelor's in Communication and Media et est « unique au monde ». Seuls de bons élèves bien motivés et internationaux sont acceptés. Cette année, il y a eu 8 demandes d'inscription par place. Autant dire qu'ici tous les étudiants sont motivés et ont du caractère ! Les élèves viennent également du monde entier, 180 nationalités sont présentes sur le campus.
Le système de mon bac est réalisé de manière à ce que personne ne double. Je n'ai pas de blocus mais ai 8 examens répartis sur l'année et j'ai 24 mois pour repasser un examen raté. Le système est donc très spécial. J'aurai 3 mois de vacances cet été.. j'en rêve déjà ! Car j'ai que noël comme pause sur toute l'année :p
L'université est ultra-moderne, tout se fait par internet : mes devoirs (envois, reçu, commentaire, résultats) et accès à la bibliothèque virtuelle de l'unif qui ne contient QUE 141 millions de livres en PDF. (L'université prévoit d'en acheter quelques dizaine de millions on plus...). L'école a sont propre système de carte pin pour les casiers, photocopieurs, distributeurs...
Aussi, les professeurs sont à votre écoute. Si quelque chose ne va pas (cours trop barbant, synthèse pas assez claires, profs qui parlent de trop/trop vite...) on est invité à le dire (à des réunions spéciales où on est payé: 15euro en ticket restaurant!! Bizarre!). L'université nous donne beaucoup de travail mais elle veut qu'on puisse travailler dans des conditions optimales.
J'adore la mentalité des Hollandais, ils sont SUPER ouverts d'esprit et ne sont jamais choqué de rien. Ici, je parle de temps à autre néerlandais quand je suis en dehors des cours ou de mon building (où je parle anglais). Je ne parle JAMAIS français de toute la journée ! Rotterdam est une ville qui me convient parfaitement. Elle est dynamique, pleine de vie, spacieuse, verte et ne dort jamais ! On est dans la vieille europe mais ici tout est neuf (à cause de la destruction de la ville pendant la guerre) et tout est bien pensé. La ville est sûre et propre (pas de tags...) j'aime !
Je reviens d'une soirée information de l'organisme international AIESEC. Je compte postuler et prendre part a un projet humanitaire de 8 semaines cet été. Il y a 10 pays différents chaque année et pour 2011, il y a les Philippines ! Je dois préparer une lettre de motivation et passer une interview... tout ça en néerlandais ! Car ce type de programme proposé par AIESEC Netherlands n'existe que pour les néerlandophones.
Bon, ben je parlerai Anglais, Néerlandais et un peu Filippino à Manille si je suis reprise ! Tout est sponsorisé et pris en charge (vol, famille d'accueil et nourriture). Je travaillerai pour une ONG contre la pédophilie.
Aussi, pour juin 2011, je dois choisir ma destination pour mon semestre Erasmus Long life Learning programme en 2012. Tout le monde veut partir aux USA ou en Australie mais moi je pense plutôt à Istanbul, ville magique ! Si plus de place, ce sera Edinbourg. Troisième choix: Tokyo!
Ah oui. En 2013, j'ai un stage de deux mois à faire à l'étranger également. Mais cette fois-ci je pense à quelque chose de plus proche : la Flandres ! (Ce sera encore AIESEC qui m'aidera)
En conclusion, je me porte super bien et je fais même des miracles en cuisine ! Je compte rentrer à Namur une fois par mois mais il faut que j'aille a Anvers-Amsterdam-Leiden bientôt dire bonjour à des amis. Je bourlingue et j'adore :)

There are already three weeks that I live in Rotterdam in the northen part. I live in a flat building for international students and for the moment, I'm on my own. No flat mate yet! This flat is offered my Uni. Even if I'm situated at 7km of it, I have 32 squared meters for myself!
I loooove the people of my building! Everyday I have new things to discover : Tcheck goulash, real Italian pasta, real Polish vodka, Bulgarian or Romanian music and even Nepali « rap », Canadian jokes, conversations with Chinese people, tea break with a Colombian girl...My building represent the whole planet ! Here I am the only Belgian and I'm also the youngest but living with « old » students doesn't annoy me at all! :) People here are Master or Phd students.
It's been two weeks that I'm going to Uni now. Erasmus University just got ranked 5th best university in Europe and 106th in the world. I must say one thing... work is hard here! But I like it here tough; my courses are great and the teachers (that we have to call by their surname) as well. I only have 11 hours of compulsory class a week (16 students) and 4 optional ones (all freshmen: 125 students). My principal course of the moment is 'academic writing' and... is pretty difficult. But still, I got 90% at my first assignment (I am sooooooo glad!) but I think I worked like 15 hours for doing it. (We have so much to read before even starting the homework!)
My programme is called 'International Bachelor's in Communication and Media' and is the only one of its kind. Only international, hard-working and motivated students are allowed to apply to this course. This year, the university received 8 applications per study place. I can tell you that everybody here in my programme is motivated and has a strong personality! Students come from all over the world, 180 nationalities are represented on the campus.
The system here is made in a way that “nobody fails”. I don't have any exam session but 8 exams spread in the year and I have 24 months to retake a failed exam if this happens. So the system is quite.. special! I'll have 3 months of holidays this summer... and I'm already dreaming of it! I only have a break at Christmas.
The university is ultra modern, everything works with Internet: homework but also the virtual university library. I have access to 141 millions of books in PDF format (and apparently, the university is thinking of buying millions of books in the coming months). The school has it own system of electronic card for lockers, copy printers...
Another good point is that the teachers listen to you. If there is something wrong (boring classes, confusing ppw slides, teachers that speak too much or too fast..) we are invited to tell about it (by going to special gatherings where you get paid for it: 15 euros voucher for the restaurant. Weird!). The university gives us a huge amount of work but it wants us to be able to work in optimal conditions.
I love the Dutch mentality, people here are REALLY OPEN MINDED and they're never shocked of nothing. Here I often speak Dutch when I'm outside university or my building (where I only speak English). I NEVER speak French! Otherwise, Rotterdam is the perfect town for me. I like the fact that the town is dynamic, multicultural, full of live, spacious, green (lot of trees an parks) and that it never sleeps. I live in the “old Europe” but everything here is new (as the town was destroyed by the WWII) and is well thinked. The town is safe and clean as well (no tags on the walls, rubbish...) I love it!
I just got back from an information evening of the international organism AIESEC. I'm planning to apply for taking part in a 8-week humanitarian project this summer. There are 10 countries chosen for 2011 including the Philippines! I've got to write a motivation latter and have an interview for this... in Dutch! That programme organised by AIESEC is a small section reserved for Dutch speakers. So.. so! I'll be able to speak English, Dutch and a bit of Filippino in Manila if I'm selected. On the top of all, everything is sponsored (flight, host family and food) and I won't have to pay anything (except: inscription and formation) If I'm chosen, I'll work for an NGO that is against paedophilia.
Also, for June 2011, I'll have to decide whether I want to have a semester abroad in 2012 with the Erasmus Long life Learning programme. Many of my classmates want to go to the states or Australia but in my case, I'm considering of going to the magic town Istanbul! My second choice is Edinburgh. Third? Tokyo! Oh yeah, I was about to forget. In 2013, I'll have to do an internship abroad (surely with AIESEC). But this time I'm thinking something more close to my hometown: the Flanders! (Dutch-speaking part of Belgium)
In conclusion, I'm doing really well and I even get better and better in cooking! I'm going home every month but I still have to go to Antwerp, Amsterdam and Leiden to visit friends. I bum around the world and I just love it :)

Hier is een e-mail om nieuws te geven. (Dat is de korte versie, je zal binnenkort een andere e-mail krijgen.)
Er zijn al drie weken dat ik in R'dam leef, in het noord van de stad. Ik woon in een flatgebouw voor internationale studenten en op dit moment heb ik een flatje voor mezelf (nog geen medehuurster). Die flat was bij de Universiteit gegeven. Ik vind dat ik een beetje ver van de Uni woon maar tenminste heb ik 32m2 voor mezelf, gezelig !
Ik houuud van de mensen van mijn gebouw ! Elke dag heb ik iets nieuws om te ontdekken : Tsjech goulash, echte Italiaanse pasta, echte polski wodka, Bulgaarse of Roumanische muziek, « rap » uit Nepal, Canadese grapjes, gesprek met Chinese mensen, 'tea time' pauzen met een Colombiaanse meisje... De hele wereld staat in mijn gebouw !! Hier ben ik de enige Belgische en ik ben ook de jongste. Met « oude » studenten leven is geen probleem voor me :) De meest zijn master of phd studenten.

Toch houd ik van mijn cursussen en van mijn leraars dat ik met hun voornaam moet roepen. Ik heb alleen maar 11u klas per week (waar we 16 in de klas zitten) en 4 andere uren die optioneel zijn (we zitten met alle eerste jaar: 125 studenten). Mijn hoofdcursus of dit moment is 'academic writing' en is echt moeilijk!! Maar ik was héééél blij dat ik 90% voor mijn eerste huiswerk heb gekregen! Daarvoor heb ik ongeveer 15u gewerkt. (Wij hebben een heleboel boeken dat we moeten eerste lezen voor dat je je huiswerk kan beginnen)

Alleen maar internationale, hardwerkende en gemotiveerde studenten kunnen aan die inschrijven. Deze jaar, de universiteit heeft 8 inschrijving per studieplaats gekregen. Ik kan je zeggen dat iedereen hier is super gemotiveerd en heeft een strenge personaliteit. Studenten zijn afkomstig van de hele wereld, 180 nationaliteiten zijn aanwezig op mijn campus.
Het systeem hier heeft iets specials. Ik heb geen examen sessie maar 8 examen voor het hele jaar. Bovendien heb ik 24 maanden om een examen een tweede keer moet doen .
Ik zal drie maanden hebben als zomervakantie.. Ik droom al ervan! Ik heb gewoon kerstvakantie en dat is het.
Het universiteit is ultra modern, alles werkt met internet: huiswerk en de virtuele bibliotheek. Een andere pluspunt is dat de docenten luisteren naar de studenten. Als je iets dat niet “goed” is (zoals vervelende klas, te moeilijk powerpoints, docenten die te veel of te snel spreken..) kan je data an een speciale vergadering vertellen. (En als je naar die gaan, krijg je een 15 euro restaurant-coupon!! Wat raar!) Het universiteit geeft us veel werk maar ze willen dat we in de beste condities kunnen werken en studeren.
Ik ben dol op de Nederlandse 'way of thinking', hier zijn de mensen open minded. Ik spreek Nederlands als ik het kan waanneer ik uit van het universiteit of mijn gebouw ben. De stad is dynamisch, multicultureel, heeft ruimte en is 'groen' (er zijn veel bomen en park). Deze stad slaapt nooit :) Ik leef in the “oude Europa” maar bijna alles hier is nieuw (de stad was vernietigd tijdens de tweede wereld orloog) and is echt good gemaakt. Bovendien, deze stad is veilig and ook schoon (geen graffiti op de muren, geen afval op straat...) I love it!
Vandaag, ben ik naar een informatie avond van de internationale organisatie AIESEC. Ik ben van plan om er daar te solliciteren om deze zomer in een humanitaire project van 8 weken te kunnen meenemen. Elke jaar, is de 'landlijst' verschilend en voor 2011 zijn er de Filippijnen! Ik moet een motivatie brief schrijven en een interview hebben... in het Nederlands! Want deze deeltje van AIESEC bestaat maar voor Nederlandsetaliger. Als ze me kies, zal ik dan Engels, Nederlands en een beetje Filipino in Manila kunnen spreken. Alles is “gesponsoriseerd” (vlucht, gastgezin en voiding inbegrepen). Als ik gekozen ben, zal ik bij een NGO werken die tegen pedofilie is.
Tegen Juni 2011, moet ik beslissen als ik met de Erasmus Long life Learning programme naar buitenlands wil gaan. De meeste van mijn klasgenoten willen naar de VS of naar Australië. Ikke denk ik van Istanbul! Tweede keuze: Edingburgh. Derde keuze: Tokyo! Oh ja! Ik ben iets vergeten: In 2013, moet in een stage naar buitenlands doen (zeker met AIESEC). Deze keer wil ik niet te ver gaan: ik wil naar Vlaanderen!
In conclusie, moet ik zeggen dat ik zéééééér goed ga! En dat ik elke dag beter en beter in koken word. Elke maand ga ik terug thuis maar ik moet nog naar Antwerpen, Amsterdam en Leiden te gaan om vrienden te bezoeken. I want to travel the world and I'm really planning to do so!
